India USA Detent and Diverging Interests

By Alam Rind. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s present visit to USA certainly would aim at projecting India as the biggest democracy, a trustworthy ally and a country having regional and global interests that converge with that of USA.

To give the impression that India wishes peace in the region, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s has expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with Pakistan only if Pakistan takes appropriate action against perpetrators of terrorist acts in India. Such conditionality’s are hard to quantify and difficult to satisfy. These also provide excuse to disrupt dialogue process at will for the pursuance of their interests. Such stances are used to exert diplomatic pressure either to avoid negotiations or to compel the other party to give up their point of view. Certainly, such coercive measures speak of double standards, inherent ill intent and wish to enforce their will as regards regional issues. India’s hegemonic designs and regional ambitions are a source of concern for smaller states of the area.
Americans seems to be nurturing India as a strong US ally in the region and a counter weight to China. US lawmakers need to assess viability of such a policy rather more empirically or else they might land up committing errors having long-term implications. India’s ability to resist Chinese interests in the region and to withstand their onslaught if ever is highly questionable. India has its own regional agenda stemming from their religo-psychic makeup (Mahabharata) that envisions revival of Great Bharat of distant past extending from parts of Iran and Afghanistan to Indonesia. Such ambitions would lead to instability and would be directly in conflict with long term USA interests in the region.
Indian government is endeavoring to project India as a “rising global power” brushing aside the fact that about one third of their population suffers from malnutrition and half of them live below poverty line. This endemic hunger has been ignored as people don’t come out in streets to remind government of its failing. It is direct results of the cast system a core religious believe which divides the society in social groups granting maximum privileges for higher strata (Brahmin) and depriving the lower casts of all rights. The protection assigned to higher casts is exceptional. An essential believe is that “a Brahmin leading the most wicked life and guilty of the most heinous crimes should not be hurt or killed, as the killing of a Brahmin is the most deadliest of all sins”. A society structured on such philosophies can only be in clash with universally accepted principles of human equality and civic rights.
India’s inaptness to act as a counter weight to China is but evident. Although China is India’s largest trading partner, yet the relationships between the two countries are that of strategic rivals. In the recent visit, realizing the strengths and potentials of China, President Obama acknowledged Chinas role in the Pakistan-India relations. It must be a blow to the Indian expectation of getting American node to exert itself as a regional power in South Asia. Before aspiring for regional and global role it will be apposite for India to look within. V. S. Naipaul while commenting on modern India, in his book “India, A Wounded Civilization” asserts; “The crisis of India is not only political or economic. The larger crisis is of wounded civilization that has at least become aware of its inadequacies and is without the intellectual means to move ahead”. He further asserted that Hinduism is not good enough as it exposed them to a thousand years of defeat and stagnation. Halford J Mckinder in “Cambridge History of India” called Indian people “less Warlike”. Historians ascribe shaping up of their history to racialism, lack of cavalry, centrifugalize and social conflict. These weaknesses still persist and will continue to haunt them in their pursuits for higher global positioning of their country.
India’s participation in the development of Afghanistan is not without purpose. They have already invested US $ 1.3 billion in development assistance for infrastructure and civic projects. At the same time their consulates are busy developing a spy web to destabilize Pakistan through terrorist activities. They wish to gain strategic space in Asia and to counterbalance China’s growing influence in the region. Chinese presence in Afghanistan and their US $ 3.5 billion copper mining project at Aynak, south of Kabul is a source of concern for them. To win US sympathy and to create wedge in US – China relations India is airing reports that Taliban has sought assistance from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) against U.S. forces in Afghanistan. At the same time destabilizing activities in Pakistan are continuing unabated that would reduce Pakistan’s ability to combat terrorism, which will directly affect US efforts in Afghanistan. It will for sure contribute towards delaying their success in Afghanistan. Pursuance of such policies certainly won’t help India in winning USA support for a regional role.
The major divergence in US – India regional objectives radiates from Indian obsession to the concept of Mahabharata. US interests will be better served by peace in the region rather than her defeat in Afghanistan. On the contrary, India is bent upon making things difficult for Americans. Obsessed with her anti Pakistan stances, she is continuously maligning Pakistan of not taking action against the perpetrators of Mumbai terrorist attacks, a wonder in itself, where ten people could attack seven different location, could carry tons of explosive and holdup for over seventy two hours. They incessantly worry the world by repeating a presumed possibility of terrorist taking control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. Such assertion by Prime Minister of a country seems absurd and speaks volumes about their policy orientation and long term objectives in the region. She will be well advised to accept realities and peacefully coexist with her neighbors.

India is a Epicenter of Terror the world knows it but as everybody looks after their interest except our politicians and some military like musharraf who look after themselves and not the country. The world powers know what the cunning dirty rotten india is doing to destablise the region under the supervision of USA in Afghanistan but due to their own interest turning the blind eye on this.

Indian terror attacks are taking place in Kashmir for decades and recently their sponsored terror group in Sri Lanka was defeated. They are killing their own people with hunger and some with their army and weapons such as Muslims of India, Sikhs, Nexals and Maoist. Indians are using Afghanistan for the terrorist attacks in Pakistan. The recent attacks on military, ISI and our innocent general public are indian raw and CIA sponsored. India is in a business of buying billions of dollars weapons of mass destruction which USA cannot see but where there were no weapons let alone weapons of mass destruction like in Iraq the USA made a big noise and destroyed the livelihood of poor Iraqis in the name of weapons of mass destruction and thier own puppet Saddam. Now the agressor India is piling up not only conventional and weapons of mass destruction along with involvement of terrorist activities in this region yet Mr. Obama the man of CHANGE cannot see that and India and USA are strategic partners. Mr. Obama should see the human rights abuses of india and its terrorist activities and its piling up nuclear weapons are the core issues which Mr. Obama campaigned against in the run off election yet india is allowed to do all these activities which Mr. Obama was against.

India is also a theif state taking control of pakistani water, our politicians and military should take action on this before it is too late.

@Loyal to Pakistan, the powers that are arrayed against you is just too strong. Their goal is simple – break up Pakistan. They have the monetary strength, military power and the brains to do it. No power in the world can save you guys. All you can do is pray! You may ask why are they doing this? Because Pakistan will not mend it’s ways. Just recently 2 terrorists were captured in the US – both belong to LeT and received training in Pakistan. They received training from a retired major of Pakistan’s army – who your country has placed under arrest after pressure from the US. This sort of thing happens every day. You don’t hear about it because your media does not highlight these incidents. Just read European and American papers and you’ll know why the entire world is against Pakistan. Where is China when you need their help? China will pay lip service but it also wants Pakistan to be broken up. The recent Islamic insurgency in Urumqi in China was planned in Pakistan. The insurgents received training and arms from Pakistan. How long can this double-game last? Not very long. This is the end-game.

@Loyal to Pakistan, I don’t want anything to happen. But I can see what is going on and only Pakistan is to blame for it. Yesterday, 5 Pakistani youth – all American citizens, were arrested. They had come to join ‘Jihad’. This is the state of the Pakistani youth today. They had come to join Jama-ud-Dawa or LeT. You guys think by ignoring this problem, you’ll somehow escape the consequences. An entire generation of youth is turning away from education and believe that violence is the only solution. Educated people like you should take a stand on this rather than fan the flames of confrontation and hatred. Sure, India did have a hand in the creation of Bangladesh. No country can allow its enemy to consolidate on both flanks. Pakistan would do exactly the same. If you call the Mumbai attacks a drama, we think all these attacks in Pakistan are also a drama. Your ISI is doing it to get more money from the Americans. How does that sound to you?

If you are sincere then come forward and raise your voice against the indian occupation, let the people of kashmir decide which was the unresolved issue from 1947 its not new as posed by india and it was not your part so if that matter is resolved then hopefully the other disputes in our region will also get resolved. But you people say words such as peace, stop hatred but then do the contrary. Kaun se “Akhand Bhart” ki baat kar rahe ho? Do you think India wants Pakistan to be merged with India? You have got to be crazy. No thanks !! What does Pakistan have that is of any use to us? A militant population? That’s about it. The “Akhand Bharat” applies to the states that are already there in the union – for God’s sake, not Pakistan and Bangladesh !! The King of Kashmir decided to join the Indian union. It is a shame that despite having half of Kashmir, you want more. That is never going to happen. The Muslims terrorists from POK infiltrated into Kashmir and drove away the Kashmir pandits who were settled for 1000s of years there and you wanted us to hold a plebiscite? Be reasonable. Pakistan and India ARE separate countries and even if you wanted to join the Indian union, you are not welcome. Let’s make that clear. If the Pakistani leaders had ‘irrefutable’ proof about Indian involvement, do you think they would keep it a secret for so long? All they have is some Indian guns and ammunition. The Taliban has Chinese and Russian weapons too. Does it mean that China and Russia are involved too? Arms smugglers operate from every country. It is a big international mafia like drug smuggling. The Saudis and drug money fund the Taliban. India will not waste money on Jihadis because they know one day they’ll turn on us.

Just read the newspapers around the world and see what they think about Pakistan. UK has stopped issuing visas to Pakistanis. Why?? US student visas are delayed by months and after the course starts, the student is asked to apply again next year. Same story next year. Where are your Chinese ‘friends’ now when you need them? Why are they silent? Pakistan is isolated in this world. Unless you stop your double-game, you’ll be broken up. Anyway, it seems to be too late already. Kya ‘epicenter’ ka rat laga rakha hai. Aap ko bhi patha hai terrorists kaun hai. Quran mein likha hai ki dushmanon se bhi joot nahin bola karo. Unke saath bhi insaaf karo. @Radh-e-Amal So we have to inform u everytime when we condemn any terrorist activity carried out in Pakistan by “Foreign Funded” terorists in Pakistan? You got no idea of how much ppl critisized them on different forums…making assumptions based on the analysis of one or two ppl who really doesnt represent the majority in Pak is iGnoRaNt,if u know!.We protest against these terrorists as well as those who are supporting them by all means i mean USA,India,Israel… if these real terrorists would stop providing financial nd strategic help to these bunch of brain washed ppl then automatically there would be peace in this region! You seem to be too much under influence of ur Indian Media that knows just to plot conspiracies against us Pakistanies…I would suggest u to think a little more wisely nd search on the real game being played by the “Strangers” in our region!
