Very sad news. My heart is weeping blood tears. Very shocking incident but predictable given the current situation in Pakistan. I think people of Pakistan should be very careful and cancel all such religious activities and gatherings that make them soft targets for barabric terrorists. It is yet another attempt to create schism amonge mostly peaceloving and peaceful Pakistanis. But, Inshallah, Pakistanis are wise enough to know the insidious attempts of enemies of Pakistan and Islam. This incident will unite all Pakistanis and not divide, God Willing. My deep heart condolences for all who were martyred or injured in this brutal act of terrorism.

The terrorist attack in Karachi on December 28, targeting the Moharram 10 procession of mourners, in which over 40 innocent lives were lost and in excess of 100 peaceful citizens were injured, has horrified the entire country. These mad butchers who maim fellow citizens, including women and children, indiscriminately, whether belonging to the despicable sectarian groups, the murderous Taliban or inhuman Al Qaeda, deserve nothing but total extermination from the face of the earth. Equally despicable are those individuals who, after such terrorist attacks, go on an insane rampage of loot and arson of public and private properties, cause incalculable loss and damage to innocent citizens, the owners of these properties and to the national economy. These looters and arsonists, too, deserve the severest of punishment under the law.
Sadly, after the occurrence of all such incidents, what we witness is a meaningless flurry of condemnation and a barrage of expressions of sympathy, a mere lip-service, with the traumatised and the affected, from the president, the prime minister, governors and chief ministers. The ruling junta, to show its benevolence and generosity, announces cash compensation for the dead and the injured, but never punishes the minister concerned and chiefs of law-enforcement agencies for their criminal negligence and unacceptable laxity in performance of their assigned duties.
It is also true that in a city as large and as thickly populated as Karachi it is extremely difficult to prevent a suicide attack by a lone terrorist. But effective counter- and anti-terror measures, such as planted under-cover moles, espionage and infiltration into terrorist outfits, can reduce occurrences of such incidents to a large extent. This aspect of counter-terrorist measures is nowhere to be seen. Although it is difficult to prevent a determined suicide attacker, what is 100 per cent preventable by the police and other law-enforcement agencies is the spree of loot and arson perpetrated by criminal elements in the ensuing aftermath of such incidents. It is the right of every citizen to protest, agitate and participate, peacefully, in all kinds of congregations, processions and protestations, regardless of an individual’s affiliation with a sect, group or political party. However, acts of vandalism, loot, arson and causing damage to private and public properties is simply unacceptable and the state officials concerned should be terminated immediately. Holders of public offices, such as the chief minister and the home minister, must resign or shown the exit gate either by the governor or the prime minister.
A distressed citizen
No security measure can protect processions from suicide bombings. A static target can be protected to some extent but when several thousand people are moving along a main road where many hundred streets open and thousands of people live, absolute protection cannot be offered. I think our religious leaders should avoid holding religious processions and gatherings till complete peace is restored in the country. Is it essential to march on the roads to show one’s respect for the martyrs of Karbala? Can it not be done indoors? So many innocent people lost their lives and property on December 28.
I suggest that during these difficult times a rational approach should be adopted to protect innocent people. The current situation demands extraordinary care. We are not dealing with ordinary criminals. If a static target like Parade Lane in Rawalpindi is difficult to protect, how can big processions and rallies be protected from such a heartless enemy?
The suicide bomb attack on the Moharram 10 procession on M A Jinnah Road is tragic and sad. According to the city nazim all main roads were being monitored through CCTV cameras. At least one camera must have filmed the suicide bomber which can be helpful in solving this case. Around 400 shops and 50 vehicles were also set on fire by the enraged mob in different parts of the metropolis. It must have also been filmed by city government’s CCTV cameras. These footages should be used to catch the hooligans.

It is sad that the extremists attacked the central rally of Moharram 10 on Monday. The attack could have been more damaging had a security personnel not confronted the suicide bomber at the outermost security cordon. He gave his own life to save that of others. I request the city government to postpone the forthcoming Moharram rallies to avoid any untoward incident. People should not lose their temper and refrain from acts of vandalism like the one seen at Boltan Market. Who are these elements who want to create further disruption? The city government should arrest these people. Karachi cannot afford any further strikes. It badly hits the economy of the whole country.

@ muneeba
You very rightly said that there are definately there are CCTV footages available, I am 100% sure that footages are available, but the administration delibrately hiding the footages, because in the available footages faces of the people are very much visiable and they are clearly identified,
I tell you these looters are only only from the procession who deliberately looted the wealth of comman man, then burn their shops and wherehouses.
4000 dukhanein jali hain kya? Maine tho khabaron mein 400 dukhanein jalne ki padi thi. Jalaaney waaley kaun log they? Unka maksad kya tha?
