The PPP and the MQM resolved their issues amicably as President Asif Ali Zardari had a telephonic conversation with MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday evening.

The two leaders exchanged views on the current political situation and expressed satisfaction over the talks held between the two parties in Abu Dhabi.

Sources said the president told Altaf Hussain that the government was serious in granting the provinces autonomy and repealing the 17th Amendment of the Constitution.

The sources said during the conservation, MQM chief Altaf Hussain assured the president that his party would stand by the government at this juncture of time. It may be mentioned here that the MQM’s refusal to support the NRO forced the government to withdraw the bill from parliament.

Fasahat Mohiuddin adds from Karachi: Senior member of the MQM’s coordination committee Mohammad Anwar said on Saturday that his party did not support the idea of holding mid-term elections as it wanted the incumbent political set-up to complete its term.

“Let me make it clear that the MQM wants the present democratic system to complete its tenure as the country is at a critical juncture and cannot afford any adventure.”

Talking to The News from Dubai, he said that there was no deadlock or any differences between the two parties.

When told that Interior Minister Rehman Malik had said that some differences were yet to be removed, Anwar said he was not aware of any differences between the two parties
