Spy chief’s wife posts all on Facebook

Sir John Sawers, currently Britain's ambassador to the United Nations, at the center of a security blunder The new MI6 chief in charge of Britain’s spying operations faces a serious security blunder after his wife posts family photos and personal details on Facebook. Sir John Sawers is due to take up a post as chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, in charge of Britain’s spying operations abroad, in November.

He is at the centre of a security breach after his wife published family holiday photographs on the Internet networking site Facebook, details which could compromise security.

Lady Shelley Sawers disclosed information, including the location of the London flat used by the couple and the whereabouts of their three children on the social networking site, the Mail on Sunday reported.

Details about the location of Sir John Sawers’ home, his work and friends were added by Lady Shelley Sawers with hardly any privacy protection, meaning that any of Facebook’s 200 million users in the open-access ‘London’ network to see the entries, the paper said.

The lapse revealed the couple’s friendship with senior diplomats and actors.

Although the pages have now been taken off the web, the Liberal Democrats are calling for an inquiry into whether the new head of MI6 should be allowed to adopt his post. – Iranian TV
